I've conducted many storytime sessions over the years and I still have such a hard time choosing solid themes. This is generally because I want to do everything.
I love the recommendations from other librarian and literacy websites. Saroj Ghoting, Early Childhood Literacy Consultant, has a wonderful website called: www.earlylit.net Her approach to themes--"plan the theme around the books/stories, not visa versa."
I plan on using her Storytime Planning Sheet that stresses: "ALL storytimes must model print motivation. the enjoyment of books and reading, whether or not you specifically articulate the information about print motivation."
